oṁ brahmā devānāṁ prathamaḥ sambabhūva
viśvasya kartā bhuvanasya goptā
sa brahmavidyāṁ sarvavidyāpratiṣṭhām
atharvāya jyeṣṭhaputrāya prāha
Brahma, the creator of all and the substance of the world, emerges as the first among the gods. He taught the science of Brahman or Brahmavidyā, the base of all other sciences, to Atharvān, his eldest son.
