Oh Supreme Lord! Protect us both Guru and disciple and at the same time maintain us cordially together. Please bless us both with spiritual power, potency, and brilliance.

Any spiritual wisdom that we have acquired together let it be so potent that no one could confront us in a discussion. Please grant Your blessing in a form that both — Guru and disciple — will not develop envy towards each other and allow that always we remain forever tied with the strong rope of affection. Oh Lord, please remove the three classes of misery and reward us with peace of all types

This is the Shanti mantra for the Upanisads corresponding to the Krishna Yajur Veda...

"Protect us both Guru and disciple and at the same time maintain us cordially together"... does not this sentence seem odd?...

How can it be that a disciple along with his master pray to the sky to keep them cordially united...together...without getting angry...

The master—disciple relationship is the most pure and elevated relationship that two souls can establish in life for the simple reason of it being completely devoid of material interests...However, it is the loving relationship that carries the most possibilities of anger and separation...

In order to grasp this it is necessary to understand that the work of the master is to help the disciple transcend and surpass the ego...to go beyond this false entity...

The master is our most dear and beloved well wisher in this world, nevertheless for this same reason he is the worst enemy of the ego...

And what is the ego?...

The false ego is your nationality, your political party, your profession, your position, your identification...that is to say the false ego is you... at least what you believe yourself to be...that which you are convinced to be...

In this sense the guru is against you...

And if the matter is not very clear to you it is possible that in certain moments you will forget...
