respectful and humble reverences to Adinatha, Lord Siva, whom exposed the wisdom of hatha—yoga, which serves stairs for whoever desires to realize the more elevated heights of raja—yoga

The Hatha—yoga Pradipika belongs to the purest lineage of Vedic yoga, a proof of this is that from its base and foundation it is dedicsted with respect and veneration to Lord Adinath, which means "The First", one of the names of Lord Siva, who imparts to his wife Parvati the great wisdom of hatha—yoga. The term "haṭhayogavidyā" jeans "the wisdom of hatha—yoga", hatha—yoga exactly according to the yogic scriptures, consists of a revealed wisdom or of Divine origins, by no means is it a product of a particular person. This wisdom was revealed to humanity with the intention to help any sincere seeker to realize his true and authentic nature, which within this context is denominated here raja—yoga, to denote the perfection.

The fact it is indicated to us clearly that this wisdom is of Divine character, or revealed, implies necessarily that we speak of a wisdom perfect in itself, it is not required to be modern, adaptive, or corrected. Of course when in the present context when we refer to hatha—yoga we do not refer to the modern western version of hatha—yoga, meaning, to the athletic, gymnastic, where all that matters is the silhouette and clothing, and where no one worries about the spiritual principals that include the classic methodology like the abstinence from eating meat or intoxicating converting the practice of postures and breathing in a sort of gymnastics or sport; in this way depriving the authentic hatha—yoga of its important spiritual vitamin wealth, something that the west has done with many of the oriental disciplines.

"Respectful and humble reverences to Adinatha, the Lord Siva"...the fact that Swatmarama, the author of this text refers to Siva as Adinatha reveals to us the connection to the Nath religious sect within the Sanatana Dharma, since those are the followers of this group that are denominated to Lord Siva in this special way.
