The Hatha Yoga Pradipika is, undoubtedly, an excellent classical and orthodox text on which the marvelous millenarian wisdom of the hatha—yoga is founded and based upon.
It establishes one of the most ancient works regarding this branch of yoga. This extraordinary text was written in the fifteenth century in the Sanskrit language by a yogui called Swatmarama, who was a disciple of Goraknath. It includes within classical wisdom and knowledge of invaluable value regarding asanas, pranayama, bandhas, kriyas, nadis, mudras, chakras, kundalini and generally about this marvelous discipline.
Sometimes the names of rishis and yoguis suggest something about their individuality, Swatmarama means "he whose delight is the Atma" or "he who is delighted in The Self".
Within the great ocean of yoguic literature exist, outisde the present, several important texts on hatha—yoga written between the sixteenth and fifteenth centuries B.C, from which we can emphasize the Goraksha Samhita written by Gorakhnat, the Gheranda Samhita written by Gherand, and the Hatharatnavali written by Srinivasabhatta Mahayogindra.
